A Master Class with Fiona Shaw

A Master Class with Fiona Shaw is a rare opportunity to meet, work, and be discovered by one of the most influential actresses and directors of contemporary theatre. Participants are expected to prepare a piece of text of their choice to work on, practically any text that is of two-minute duration. The Master Class will take place on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Theatre Row, New York City. All ages and levels of theatrical experience encouraged. Participants will hone their skills while performing their pieces and by observing the class, which will address a variety of styles and approaches. Space is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. 2018 Submissions NOW OPEN

The 9th annual United Solo Festival invites local and international artists to submit their shows to the world’s largest solo theatre festival. World premieres and already-produced shows are equally welcome. Submitted proposals may represent storytelling, improv, dance, musical, puppetry, multimedia, variety, spoken word, cabaret, stand-up, magic, tragedy, comedy, and other forms of solo performance. Selected shows will be presented between September 13 and November 18, 2018 at Theatre Row in New York City.
Applicants interested in submitting their shows after January 19, 2018 are encouraged to contact info@unitedsolo.org. As in the past, United Solo reserves the right to accept applications after the deadline under special circumstances. The Festival’s mission is to build the community of solo performers and connect them to New York audiences. Last season, the ten‑week Festival featured 120 solo productions from six continents. In 2018, the Festival will once again offer top notch productions by renowned artists and emerging talents. Artists benefit from presenting their works in the world‑famous theatre district on 42nd Street. Theatre companies are given the opportunity to reach the industry, generate income from ticket sales from up to eight shows at the Festival, and receive media attention through previews, profiles, reviews, and other articles. Shows are also considered for awards in many categories. Winners from past seasons include Pedro Almodovar, Gordon Clapp, Sherry Glaser, Joe Gulla, Richard A. Harris, Milton Justice, Joan Kane, Ann Morrison, Bill Oberst, Estelle Parsons, Austin Pendleton, Mimi Quillin, LynnMarie Rink, Eric Roberts, and Addie Walsh. Many of the awarded artists will be invited to join the United Solo Academy, a creative group that helps the Festival nominate and select solo performers to receive the annual United Solo Special Award. Over the past few years, this honorary prize was presented to Anna Deavere Smith, Patti LuPone, John Leguizamo, Fiona Shaw, Billy Crystal, James Lecesne, Staceyann Chin, Cynthia Nixon, and Michael Moore.
