Tiananmen Annie

drama, comedy, storytelling, 75 min.

A hilarious and heartbreaking true coming-of-age tale about living as a university student in China in 1988-1989 and working for CNN during the Tiananmen Square Uprising. The story of China on the brink of change, from the voice of an old woman with bound feet to a heroic hunger striker. Today in China, there is an entire generation in the dark about the events of June 4, 1989 – it is forbidden to discuss. With the current Umbrella Revolution in Hong Kong, this is as poignant a story today as it was 26 years ago. Director: Richard Embardo. Producer: Julie Lawrence. Sound Design: Jeff Gardner. Recommended for: teenagers, adults, elderly, theatre community, LGBTQ community, ethnic community (Chinese). Links: show, artist, video, related.
