How does one navigate when things don’t unfold as envisioned? Is liberation from one’s roots and the ascribed, inherited history possible? If not, can this narrative be rewritten? How does a young woman cope with failures and rejections, continually finding motivation? Does self-reinvention require a moment of enlightenment in the isolation of the Covid lockdown? The play confronts expectations and wounds, transforming them into art and humor. Based on the text “An Artistic Therapy Evening,” awarded the Exile Literature Prize in 2021 in Austria, the author and performer Melike Yagiz-Baxant draws from life’s moments — childhood traumas, failed conservatory exams, integration in Vienna, absurd casting experiences, pandemic, war and earthquakes! And then again and again war! Who truly is dead? The King is dead!
