Grabbing the Hammer Lane: A Trucker Narrative is a searing play about rebellion and fleeting moments for reconciliation. Matt, a long-haul trucker, hit the road to find himself and the freedom he desired—only to become imprisoned over time in a steel cell on 18 wheels. Clarence remained at home, diminishing with the passage of time and from the anguish he bore from losing the love he pushed away. The story chronicles the lives of prodigal son (Matt) and his father (Clarence) who are at odds over their own rage-fueled life choices. With humor, grit, and in-your-face honesty, Hammer Lane tells the story of these two men living different sides of one story—a story about rejection, regret, separation, and the search for redemption. Grabbing the Hammer Lane: A Trucker Narrative won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Solo Drama at the 2023 Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival.
