Nicholas dreams of becoming a documentary filmmaker in Hollywood. Unfortunately he has to work in a restaurant to pay the bills. Samantha, his girlfriend, wishes he would give up on his dream so they can move back to her home town in Miami and live a simple life. We see their relationship through Nicholas’s point of view on five holidays: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and Valentine’s Day. Each holiday they rush to celebrate together before Nicholas goes off to work and Samantha is left to spend the night alone.
This is a play about the working class and the difficulty of realizing an artistic dream under the financial expectations of a romantic relationship. How can an artist share romantic love with someone who may not understand what drives their passion for an artistic career? What does that mean for love? What does that mean for the artist? Nicholas will have to learn the hard way as he faces an inevitable crossroads. Sometimes love is not enough.
