Galat Lagchha Malai Mero Deshko Itihas is an abstract, experimental solo performance showcasing Nepal’s national treasure, the poet Bhupi Sherchan. This piece focuses on one specific poem by the famed writer, in which he observes the state of Nepal and its culture and expresses his disappointment in what he sees.
Though the poem was written in 2016 BS / 1960 AD, the strength of its message remains relevant to today’s Nepal. Many things have changed in the sixty years since Sherchan wrote this poem, but much of what he observes in the poem can still be seen in today’s Nepal.
Through a process of physical exploration, literary analysis, and personal engagement, Rajkumar Pudasaini has brought this poem to life. Audiences will be engaged by the poem’s strong message and Pudasaini’s detailed performance. They will feel compelled to look at themselves and the situation of Nepal in the same way Bhupi Sherchan looks.
