Jocasta is a poetic and innovative reinterpretation of the Oedipus myth, told from the perspective of Jocasta, a character often overshadowed in the legend. Written by renowned Greek mythology researcher Mohammad Reza GhodseVali and directed by acclaimed theater artist Howard Rosenstein, this 35-minute monologue transforms Jocasta into the story’s central figure, offering a deeply moving exploration of identity, destiny, and resilience.
Through Jocasta’s voice, the play uncovers new layers of the classic tale, blending timeless mythology with contemporary artistry. Poetry and womanhood form the foundation of this evocative performance, delivering an intimate portrayal of strength, vulnerability, and transformation.
This reimagined production showcases the collaborative efforts of an exceptional creative team. Performed in both English and Persian, Jocasta bridges cultural and linguistic boundaries, connecting audiences through its universal themes.
By reclaiming Jocasta’s narrative, this solo performance challenges conventional perspectives on mythology and amplifies an often-silenced voice. Jocasta is a bold and poignant reexamination of a timeless legend, inviting audiences to rediscover one of history’s most iconic stories through the eyes of a powerful, complex woman.
