Enemies of the People is a haunting and deeply personal one-woman show adapted from the powerful memoir by Peabody Award-winning journalist and author Kati Marton. Set in post-war Hungary, the play follows Kati’s journey as she uncovers the long-buried story of her parents—Ilona and Endre—renowned journalists who endured and resisted two oppressive regimes. As Kati sifts through state files and family memories, a portrait of love, betrayal, resilience, and quiet defiance emerges.

Starring acclaimed Hungarian actress Erika Marozsán, the piece was adapted especially for her by the award-winning Mohácsi brothers and directed by János Mohácsi. Accompanied by a mesmerizing original score composed by Márton Kovács and Ádám Móser, the production blends personal narrative with political history in a vivid, emotionally charged performance.

Enemies of the People draws from a rich tradition of Central European storytelling, where the personal and political collide. With just one voice and a powerful story, it captures the human cost of authoritarianism—and the enduring strength found in family and truth. This intimate, evocative work invites audiences to reflect on freedom, memory, and the courage it takes to face the past.
