An Evening with Poet and Writer George Wallace, a one- man multimedia show. The program of Wallace’s bold spoken word plus musical and video recorded collaborations with global artists, hits the red-carpet off- Broadway United Solo stage at Theatre Row in celebration of its 20th groundbreaking year.

“If Schoenberg were alive,” writes Carlo Alessandro Landini, Conservatorio di Musica G. Nicolini, “he would say Wallace has in fact found the perfect measure, to harmonize voice, text and music.” No stranger to the necessary fearlessness of poetry today, George Wallace, a native New York resident, has lived and worked worldwide as a teacher, journalist, medical officer and Peace Corps volunteer. Writer-in-Residence at the Walt Whitman Birthplace since 2011, Wallace is recipient of the prestigious PEN-Oakland Josephine Miles Prize, and an honorary doctorate from the Royal Academy of Spain/CIESART. He’s received top honors and awards at festivals in the US, UK, Southern Europe, South America (“La poderosa voz de una generacion”, stated Lety Villagarcia, State Council for Literature and the Arts), and Asia, resulting in the stimulation of a grassroots poetry network among writers across the nation.

Wallace, whose work has been cited by Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore as “Bop prosody, runs rhythms deep”, has authored 45 poetry chapbooks and dedicated himself to new modalities in performance poetry, combining the written word with music in studio, on stage and via cutting- edge technologies. No small irony that Wallace was called “Cool and musical” by folk pop auteur Donovan, even as Home Planet News declares the poet as having a “Hopper-like eye for the seemingly mundane”.
