A note from D.C. Anderson:
I am calling fellow humanitarians to the theater who would appreciate an hour and change with a folk music loving musical theater actor singing what my father used to refer to as ‘Save the World Songs’ as a way of experiencing solidarity through music in an election year in which the stakes could not be higher.
Until I saw historian Heather Cox Richardson suggest that resistance to a diminished democracy can be as simple as engaging in one’s joy, I had been experiencing writer’s bloc/fear that my writing was inconsequential, that it failed to address that which occupied most of my waking hours – the experience of an administration engaged in a betrayal of what I believe to be bedrock principles of the country I know and love.
I am not certain my songs are capable of ‘saving’ the world…I do think they can, however, speak to shared concerns of fellow theater lovers…
