Dementia Man: An Existential Journey is an award-winning autobiographical play by actor and playwright Samuel A. Simon, offering a deeply personal exploration of life after an Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
In this full-length solo performance, Simon takes the stage as a man confronting his cognitive decline in real time. With honesty, vulnerability, and moments of unexpected humor, he asks the difficult questions so many individuals and families face: What happens next? How do we hold onto identity, purpose, and connection?

The piece provides an intimate look inside the emotional and psychological landscape of dementia, while also highlighting the challenges of navigating a fragmented medical system. It reflects not only a personal journey but a shared human experience that affects millions of people and their loved ones.

Audiences are asked to reconsider what it means to live meaningfully with neurocognitive disease—through empathy, adaptation, and support.

Premiering at Capital Fringe Festival 2023, it received the 2023 Dementia Arts Impact Award from the Dementia Spring Foundation.
