When Joan’s mathematician husband takes a job at a hedge fund in New York, she decides to quit her tenure-track position at Berkeley, pack up their four-year-old son and join him in the City. What follows is a collision with a world of wealth, privilege, and seductive compromise — and a decision that will alter the course of her life and the lives of everyone around her.

The Playground is an award-winning one-woman play with voices, written and directed by Jim Dalglish and performed by Anna Botsford. Told entirely from Joan’s perspective, the play weaves memory, regret, and dark humor into a searching examination of integrity, ambition, and the human cost of looking the other way.
The Cape Cod Times called it “the most intense 100 minutes of your life.” Anna Botsford was praised as “one of the most incredible actors I have ever seen.”

Anna Botsford holds a BFA in Theatre Education from Emerson College and has appeared in productions including A Doll’s House (Cotuit Center for the Arts) and Portraiture (Helltown Players). She is a two-time winner of Best Actress for the Broadway World Awards for Grounded, and an IRNE Award nominee for her work in Unsafe. Anna is the IB Theatre teacher and STAGE Director at Sturgis Charter Public School West Campus, and a founding member of ASA Theatre Company on Cape Cod.

Jim Dalglish holds an MFA in playwriting from Brown University, where he studied under Paula Vogel, and has had more than 30 plays produced domestically and internationally. He is the Producing Artistic Director of Helltown Players, a nonprofit theater collaborative based on Cape Cod.
