Multi award-winning British verse playwright/director, Ryan J-W Smith, and Tony-nominated producer, Bradley R. Bernstein, join forces as the internationally acclaimed theatre company, Rogue Shakespeare®, to present the NY premiere of Smith’s latest (7th) verse play – the award-nominated, PRETTY, WITTY NELL, starring Hannah Attfield.
An original one-woman tragicomic history, written in rhyming iambic verse, PRETTY, WITTY NELL tells the true story of Nell Gwynne, the famous actress/prostitute, and mistress of the wild British monarch, King Charles II.
In the introduction to his new book of plays, ‘Rogue Shakespeare®: 3 plays’, Smith says he wrote the show as a celebration of Nell, and women on the stage. The world premiere took place in Hollywood, June 2019, where it delighted audiences and reviewers alike:
