“Her show is autobiographical, funny, reflective, and wholly original while at the same time celebrating classic music from more than 100 years ago.” – Chicago Cabaret Week
Chicago creative Jackie Smook (American Idol, United Solo Theater Festival BEST EMERGING ARTIST AWARD, The Second City) comes to the Annoyance with her outrageously hilarious solo show – Making her 54 Below debut in the spring, featured in United Solo theater Festival, featured in The Chicago Tribune for “8 Things to do around Chicago this weekend”, as well as a solo act in Chicago Cabaret week and currently holds a residency at the famous Davenport’s Piano Bar. Smook, along with a gaggle of her own expertly crafted puppets, put on a show that everyone will adore. Under Your Skin tells the story of the time Smook worked as a medical assistant during her summer vacation, a job she never expected. Mostly because she had no prior training and this, of course, caused utter chaos to ensue. This is a comedic telling, in real time, of her grueling experiences told through puppetry and storytelling, multiple original characters and songs through the ages. Originally planned to premiere at The Second City after its first preview at Davenport’s Piano Bar before the pandemic, Under Your Skin has been Chicago’s talk of the town with many sold out performances and Festival Features.
